Around the island of Hoeksche Waard

A wonderful trip around one of the islands of South Holland. Hoekse Waard is located south of Rotterdam and is surrounded by the Oude Maas, the Spui, the Dordtse Kil and the Hollandsch Diep. Depending on the desired pace, this trip can be done in a week or as part of a longer trip through Zeeland or further into South Holland.

A beautiful combination of peace and quiet, nature, small villages and the opportunity to explore the hustle and bustle of a city.

The fortified town of Willemstad spoils its visitors with a special combination of historical and culinary hospitality with numerous nice restaurants. Particularly interesting in terms of cultural history: the Mauritshuis, the Koepelkerk, the old town hall and the fortifications surrounding the city. And challenging through the rugged landscape, for example around the Hollandsch Diep. The marina provides a perfect base for your cruise.

Tiengemeten (swimming time)

Enjoy anchoring near Tiengemeten, the only "real" island in the southwest of the Netherlands. It can only be reached by ferry from the Hoekse Waard, hence the oasis of tranquillity in the vast nature of the Delta. Get to know the grazing robust cattle, the marshy reed beds, thousands of water birds and centuries-old orchards. Maybe we'll get lucky and even discover beaver castles along the shore.

Stad aan het Haringvliet

Town on the t Haringvliet is a small village in the municipality of Middelharnis. Thanks to the beautiful old harbour of the village, it is one of the most beautiful villages in South Holland. We have a wide choice, there is a small old harbour in the centre of the village, and just outside the village is the larger new marina Atlantica. Just a stone's throw away we find the sandy beach of Stad aan t Haringvliet for a nice walk.

Marina Hellevoetsluis is a beautifully situated marina with spacious berths. When you enter the marina at the lighthouse, we can see the berths behind the swing bridge. The marina is located in the Hellevoetsluis fortress. So you and your ship are right in the middle of the busy centre, where many events are organised in the summer. There is more than enough to experience if you want to stay an extra day.The Hellevoetsluis site is centrally located in DELTA.

Today's destination is one of the larger villages in this true agricultural region of fields and farmlands, Oud-Beijerland.The river Spui meanders and creeps through the middle of the polders on both sides. After a pleasant ride, it brings us to a small and cosy harbour right in the centre. The smaller ships can be moored in the inner harbour, for the larger ships there is a passer-by mooring in front of the lock.

We take a trip to the old trading town of Dordrecht. Steep gables, canals, moats and beautifully restored medieval buildings amidst a lively bustle characterise this city, which flourished long before Amsterdam and was a hub of trade. And you can still see it! Dordrecht is perhaps one of the country's best-kept secrets. Where else would you find a city on an island full of culture, vibrant festivals, rugged nature and a rich past that you can still experience everywhere in the historic inner city.

We moor in the small but cosy harbour of Strijen Sas. This small harbour is again on the island of Hoekse Waard and has a beautiful old lock ("Sas") where the small flat-bottomed boats used to transport all the agricultural goods from the polder. On our last day, it is only a modest distance home. So we have all the time we need to enjoy this last day of sailing at leisure.
